by Thando Mgobhozi

Society especially men always has a lot to say about women who are sexually liberated. It’s always a conversation around lack of morals but does owning your sexuality necessarily mean you lack morals? Well, it depends on what having morals means to you. These 4 women have truly shown that they are confident in their own skin

Moonchild Sanelly

Moonchild Sanelly has proved to be more than what meets the eye and has secured her spot safely in the music industry especially with the latest collaboration she had with none either than Beyoncé Knowles, Tierra Whack, Yemi Alade and our very own kalawa chickita Busiswa. The song is titled My Power and features on The Lion King: The Gift which is an album curated by Beyoncé who plays Nala in the film. The country was very excited for the ladies to hear about this collaboration and we hope the ladies keep breaking boundaries and keep setting an example for the women that come behind them. Moonchild is very open about her sexuality and is not afraid to explore and express herself.

In an interview, she stated that she wants to start her own sex show, sex shop, and even a nude club. She says part of the reason she wants to do this is that she wants to normalize nudity and when asked when she would be opening her nude club she stated that she is going to have a sex theme birthday party on her birthday in November where the media is not going to be allowed inside the venue. She said, “Let me tell you something, I want to create the culture so that by the time I open the club there is already a community that knows that I can just chill out, I can walk naked and dance and party. No cameras, I want to build that thing. So I’m going to start with parties because I’m going to make it normal. Because we all have sex, we all love it and why are we scared?”

Zodwa Wabantu

Zodwa Rebecca Libram aka Zodwa Wabantu has been making news headlines a lot of late and if you haven’t heard the latest on what has been happening in ‘Zodwa World’ then you probably need to get a bowl of popcorn, coffee, tea or whatever works for you, sit back and relax because there’s a lot mate. Zodwa was very open to the world about paying lobola for her young boyfriend Ntobeko Linda but she soon called off the engagement saying she felt sorry for Ntobeko as he was still young and they didn’t share the same goals for the future. She also took to social media to let the world know that she had undergone a vaginal tightening procedure.

A lot of people are not comfortable with the way Zodwa dresses but that doesn’t bother her at all as she lives her life for herself and doesn’t let people’s opinions define who she is. She encourages women to have a spirit as bold as hers and to do whatever they need to do to survive, even if it means using your body to make money. She says if it wasn’t for her braveness and fearlessness to do what she does on stage, she wouldn’t be making the money that she currently makes.

Zodwa was a regular at Eyadini Lounge in Umlazi, Durban where she was popularly known for rocking the dance floor with short dresses and no panties underneath. Her signature dance move is the walking vosho where she does a vosho with her hands raised to the sky while she walks forward with her legs wide open. She was spotted by Dj Tira who then signed her under his label as a dancer. In one of her performances in Bahamas, Kwa-Thema where she was performing for the crowd she started taking her panty off, held it in her hand and started dancing with it. She also started to yell “khiph’ ipanty’ to the crowd which loosely translated means take off your panty before she threw it to the crowd.

Busiswa

Busiswa Gqulu was recently involved in the #IAmMe campaign by Ackermans. She is amongst other celebrities and tv personalities including actress Rami Chuene, radio personality and tv presenter Pearl Modiadie, tv presenter Kim Jayde just to mention a few. The media personalities posed in lingerie to show that they are proud of their bodies with all their flaws and imperfections. When she posted a photo of herself in the lingerie on social media, she was judged for exposing her body like that especially because she is a fairly new mother to her one-year-old son Lakhanya. The Banomoya hitmaker responded to the hate and judgment by saying, “Even though I haven’t lost the baby fat, I am confident in my body. Every woman deserves to feel sexy… I in lingerie shows that I am not hiding who I am.” The campaign was given a thumbs up by many women across the country saying it gave them the confidence to accept and love themselves the way they are without feeling the need to look a certain way to feel accepted by society. Busiswa is a brilliant performer who can get down and has always embraced who she is. She is undeniably the queen of the house and the dance floor.

Nadia Nakai

Nadia Nakai has just released her debut album titled Naked Nadia and she has been criticized for using her body to sell her music. She received a lot of backlash when she performed in a high cut g-string looking like a costume at the Castle Light Unlocks event. People were complaining about her not being dressed at all. She says people are more accepting of other woman’s dress codes especially in other countries but do not view it in the same manner when it comes to women in their country. Not to mention the double standards, she also mentioned that men do not receive the same backlash that women do and society does not have a problem with a man taking off his shirt on stage during a performance. Cassper Nyovest defended Nadia Nakai in a tweet he posted saying, “Why is it that y’all always on Nadia’s case about how she dresses? Who are you to tell a woman how to dress? It’s her body!!! Let the poor girl enjoy her body!!! This has to stop.” The ‘Naaa Mean’ hitmaker says that the title of her debut album was inspired by all this naked talk about herself.
