Date Night Lewks

It’s officially the month of love, and irrespective of your relationship status, you can still look mesmerizing by rocking these trendy makeup looks.

The 80s Blush Trend

Blush is about to have a major beauty moment in 2020. The correct application can make you look radiant and youthful and is one of the easiest beauty trends to pull off this season. Take your blush game from drab to fab by using the draping technique. This is done by strategically placing the blush where you would usually contour resulting in a slimmer face; adding a rosy glow to your features.

How to wear this trend:
Start with fresh skin and prep the face with an illuminating primer.  Apply blush on the tops of the cheekbones blending towards the temples. Then proceed to sweep some product on your brow bone and across your nose. Make sure you blend the blush very well so there are no visible, harsh lines.

I also recommend using pink and coral blush tones for this look. A blush with a slight shimmer also works well and will add a lovely glow to the skin without the need for additional highlighter.

Try: NARS Orgasm Blush, WetnWild Pealescent Pink, Tom Ford Cheek Colors, MAC Sunbasque Blush.

Lash and lipstick match

One of the hottest makeup trends at the moment is to boldly match your lipstick and your mascara. Lauren B. Brown tweeted a series of photos where she’s donning this trend. She captioned the pictures: “Never going back to black lashes!” This tweet sparked numerous attempts at this gorgeous trend within the beauty industry.

How to wear this trend:
You will need a pair of false lashes and liquid lipstick. Paint the lashes with the liquid lipstick and allow it to dry before applying. Use the same lipstick on your lips.

For a more subtle take, swap out your usual black mascara with green or blue mascara and pair it with a nude lip. If you tend to shy away from colour, try this trend with brown mascara to make your eyes pop.

Try: RushTush Lip Paints from the Summer Collection, MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colours, shoplinespring.co.za lashes.

Purple Makeup

Date night should be synonymous with pinks and reds but many are choosing to ditch these colours and go on-trend with purple makeup. Try a rich purple lipstick or a sweep of purple eyeshadow on the eyelids.

Purple is a colour synonymous with royalty, it combines the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. According to Ralph Lteif, International Dior PRO Makeup Artist: “I think that purple is everywhere at the moment because it’s a colour that is universally flattering to a wide range of skin tones and eye colours.”

How to wear this trend:
Ensure that the base makeup is flawless as purple tends to pick up shadows on the face. Try and go in with slightly heavier coverage if you’re prone to pigmentation. For a subtle take on this trend, blend some purple eyeshadow on the eyes, finish the look with liner and mascara and a berry lip tint.

Don’t be afraid to try a bold purple lipstick – it’s flattering so long as you choose the correct shade for your skin tone. If you have fair skin, go for lilac, lavender and mauves. If you have a deeper skin tone, choose a warmer shade of purples such as violet, and berry-toned lipsticks.

Try: Anastasia Beverly Hills Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette, Huda Beauty Neon Obsessions, MAC Heroine lipstick, Urban Decay Cloud 9, NYX Violet
