What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the Vodacom Durban July? Fashion, fashion, and more fashion right. This is true for many fashionistas who could not wait to see what our local celebrities would be bringing in terms of the fashion this year. Of course, there’s more to July as it is one of the biggest horse racing events in Africa held in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province every year. All attendees are encouraged to dress up and can even participate in the various fashion competitions for a prize. Horse racing itself is such a deeply routed tradition of fashion.
The theme for this year was stars of Africa and this is what some of your favorite celebrities looked like.
Bonang Matheba aka Queen B came as a businesswoman at this years Vodacom Durban July with THE HOUSE OF BNG making its first debut. She kept it simple yet elegant and classy with this Gert Johan masterpiece which she says was 9kg heavy but we say it was totally worth it. We have decided to stan forever because this queen keeps making waves all the time when we least expect it.
Linda Mtoba aka Mrs. Mom never disappoints and was a stunner in this leopard print look by Maccathy Wolff. She announced her pregnancy earlier prior to the event when she posted a shot of her belly and social media was abuzz with a lot of people excited about the news of her pregnancy. She truly owned this look and makes pregnancy look so good while at it. She is indeed a star of Africa. Congratulations once again to her and we can’t wait for the all the cute baby snaps.
Beauty vlogger Mihlali Ndamase has been breaking the internet a lot as of late and we are loving it. This year she rocked the July with this beautiful white and silver gown by Keys fashion. The blonde hair and makeup blended in well with her outfit giving us all sorts of 90s modern vibes. We can’t wait to see what she will be breaking the internet for again.
Luthando Shosha aka King Lootlove kept it modern and fresh with this gorgeous white dress by Zodwa Bridal. The gold belt matches perfectly with the gold neck piece while her colorful nails compliment her earrings. The faux locs tied up in a high bun definitely have her looking like a true African star and Goddess.
Lastly, for the women, we have the lovely Boitumelo Thulo popularly known as Boity. Whether she’s in sweats and sneakers performing somewhere for a crowd, she definitely makes sure that she rises to the occasion and she did just that with this purple showstopper by Orapeleng Modutle. We love the glittery details of the gown and how it was styled.
First, up for the gents we have the one and the only Somizi Mhlongo aka Somgaga, Som G63 and and and. Somgaga represented Brand Arc SA with this green ensemble that had a train longer than most wedding dress veils. You never know what to expect from
Som G as his style is unpredictable and always evolving but we definitely know that all eyes were on him as soon as he rocked up to the July this year. We also love the short blonde hair.
Cassper Nyovest aka Mufasa wore this simple olive looking suit and accessorized it with a bold gold neck piece. We can say that he played it safe but still looked the part.
Of course, there are many other celebrities who looked dazzling that I have not mentioned here but if you do want to see who wore what be sure to check them out on social media under the hashtag #vdj19. Until next year, cheers.
