Indifferent

by Kimberly Flanagan

Maybe it’s time we stop saving face,
pretending and fronting
and just come out and say what
we’re really thinking.

Letters in bottles tossed into the ocean
like forgotten memories
on their way to faraway places
bobbing on the sea surface.
Directionless.

It seems that’s how we live our lives
on a daily basis
without a map, destination or compass
just spaces and empty faces.
Expressionless.
